Hopi Candles

THERMO-AURICULAR THERAPY

Ear candling has been around for many centuries with their historic roots found in Asia and traced to the Mayas and the Indians of North and South America. The Egyptians used earthenware cones filled with herbs which were lit. The 'candle' is a hollow tube made of flax which is stiffened by being impregnated with beeswax and sometimes herbs and oils.

The treatment is gentle and relaxing. The lighting of the candle produces a gentle heat which softens any wax, drawing it into the base of the candle. It also helps to drain the sinuses. When both ears have been done there is a facial massage, with oil, paying particular attention to the sinus areas.

Hopi Candles

In Germany, medical doctors are taught to use ear candles as well as syringing. Exeter University has a large complementary health centre and have been trialling the use of candles.

This treatment is known to help with sinusitis, rhinitis, earwax, earache and ear irritation.
